Senior Manager Business Analysis

Role Purpose
To provide business performance analysis & insight for the UAE Commercial Banking (CMB) business, specifying support and strengthen business planning and performance tracking capabilities through driving and enhancing ongoing business analysis, providing high quality management information, perfecting performance tracking mechanisms, supporting business decision making, formulation of strategic/operating plans, and recommending business strategies and solutions.

Main Responsibilities

Impact on the Business
• Lead role in strategic/operating plan processes including formulating/joined up growth strategies and plans through negotiation with other functions / departments. Liaise with other departments and functions to resolve issues arising during strategy implementation.
• Ensure business plans in HSBC Middle East (HBME) are consistent with the Group objectives by providing financial & business analysis input into ROP and strategic plans.
• Work closely with business issues such as Liquidity, Funding, Risk Return Benchmarks etc

Customers / Stakeholders
• To provide business & financial analysis for the UAE CMB business and provide analytical commentary to senior management, ALCO & EXCO
• Assisting the CMB business in rolling out various initiatives in the UAE.
• Helping to develop and evaluate business performance of UAE CMB, by monitoring MI, ALCO and GMB reports; conduct insightful analysis of business results and cost/income dynamics, including benchmarking e.g. to local competitors

Leadership & Teamwork
• Strong interpersonal skills as the role requires significant interaction with senior executives within the CMB business and Risk function.
• Leadership and communication skills to explain complex financial numbers to non-finance executives within the business.
• Lead role in the analysis of cost dynamics and IT/inter-business charge process by working closely with various inter-business parties

Operational Effectiveness & Control
• Ensuring compliance with FIM requirements and Group procedures.
• Ensuring continuous implementation of internal and external audit recommendations in a timely and effective manner

Key Challenges
• A broad range of functions/products comprise the business, which leads to a high-level of complexity in planning, production of management information and business analysis and requires the finance job holder to have sharp business focus and excellent analytical skills to deal with intangible concepts and unstructured situations.
• There is also considerable challenge in providing strategic/management support and coordination to a large number of widely diverse in-country franchises. Country management requires the role to exercise true collective management with other parts of the functions in the negotiation of equitable, customer, revenue and cost sharing solutions.
• The job holder should have effective understanding of Bank’s Balance Sheet / Capital Management risks/issues and should work along with the business in mitigating these risks / managing these issues. This will require constant interaction with business in understanding their funding and capital requirements and co-relating these into banks overall constraints.

Experience & Qualifications

The role requires:
• A thorough understanding of the commercial banking business, strong analytical reasoning skills and a reasonably good understanding of accounting policies.
• The role requires a qualified accountant with an accounting degree from a recognised accounting board or and MBA in Finance with a minimum of 5 years experience in a specialist business analysis role.
