ITO Project Manager
Role Purpose
The ITO Project Manager is a key player in the timely delivery of the ITO projects that meet customer needs and support the regional “Change the Bank” IT Operations strategies and initiatives. The Project Manager is ultimately responsible for all IT related project decisions and understands both the customer needs and the IT infrastructure solutions.
The Project Manager role is responsible for coordinating the activities of ITO teams, other HTSM departments, Group ITO teams and other service departments, and external parties such as infrastructure components suppliers to deliver assigned projects on time, within budget and meeting appropriate levels of quality. The role is responsible for managing projects involving infrastructure analysis, architecture definition, design, build and testing of solutions for ITO projects.
The Project Manager contributes to the successful delivery of ITO projects by ensuring that all projects are delivered according to HSBC and department standards, that an appropriate project plan is created and maintained, and that all parties involved in the project are kept informed of progress and issues. The Project Manager also manages and controls risk, and ensures appropriate contingencies are provided.
Main Responsibilities
Impact on the Business
• Manage the full project cycle of the ITO projects from the approved Clear Choice to the Implementation to ensure customer requirements are met or exceeded, on time and within budget in line with business targets;
• Define Critical Success Factors (CSFs), Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other objectives that must be met by the project;
• Develop a good level of understanding of the appropriate IT infrastructure in the region.
• Ensure that problems are managed and escalated efficiently with the minimum service disruption;
Customers / Stakeholders
• Participate in the management of the relationship between the customers and the IT Project team, controlling customer expectations and negotiating compromise where appropriate;
• Ensure the Project Sponsor is informed of budget expenditure against expected expenditure;
• Ensure accurate effort and expenditure figures are provided to IT Finance and Relationship Management;
Leadership & Teamwork
• Facilitate and chair regular project meetings and follow up with team members as required to focus on business and operational issues or technical issues, documenting, assigning and monitoring all project issues to ensure clearance with minimal impact to project progress;
• Engender a team approach to project delivery with an inclusive approach to decision-making and planning;
• Facilitate appropriate decision making to resolve issues and manage risk in order to keep the project on plan;
• Engage and manage relationships with third party suppliers, identifying and monitoring dependencies between internal and external providers;
• Identify and engage all key stakeholders, contributors and business and technical resources that must participate in the assigned projects and ensure that contributors are motivated to complete assigned tasks within the parameters of the project plan;
Operational Effectiveness & Control
• Assume responsibility for ensuring that assigned projects are developed and implemented according to Group and department standards;
• Create project plans using group standard tools;
• Produce effective progress reports for assigned projects to keep management apprised of project status, major issues, scope changes, resource changes and milestone achievements or misses;
• Ensure compliance with all relevant internal instructions (FIMs, GSMs, circulars) and external regulatory requirements, including the management of operational risk and adherence to the Group’s standards of ethical behavior;

Key Challenges
• Control concurrent projects and resources that vary in scale and complexity to meet changing objectives.
• Managing the projects using a team that will be typically spread across the globe.
• Exposure to the international Infrastructure regulation and the ability to build relationships with the external authorities and service providers at a regional level.
• Financial and Accounting acumen to articulate the case for IT investments and alternatives in the language of business, and relate that to the SSO rates.
• Keeping abreast of changing technology trends and skill sets
Qualifications
• Typically qualifications would include an graduate or post-graduate degree preferably augmented with a PMP certification.
Experience
• Proven experience in an IT leadership, development or operations role;
• Proven technical expertise in an IT role;
• Crisis response and recovery;
• Good knowledge of risk management;
• Demonstrated ability to rapidly build relationships with key stakeholders;
• Proven ability to manage small to medium sized teams and delegate authority;
• A track record of delivering projects;
• A broad understanding of IT hardware, software, operations and networks;
• A good knowledge of ITO processes.
