Head of Commercial Banking
HSBC Iraq Background
HSBC is represented in Iraq through Dar Es Salaam Investment Bank (DES) which is one of Iraq's leading private banks headquartered in Baghdad - Park Al Sadoun and which has been 70.1% owned by HSBC since October 2005. DES currently has 16 branches which are well distributed around the country and has a support team functioning from HSBC Jordan to provide assistance to customers based in Amman. DES offers a wide range of domestic and international products and services represented in Personal Financial Services, Commercial Banking, Global Banking and Markets, Private Banking, Trade & Supply Chain and Payments and Cash Management.
Main Responsibilities
-Responsible to lead the Iraq Corporate Banking business which comprises Commercial Banking (CMB), Global Banking (GB) and Global Transaction Banking (Payments and Cash Management, Trade and Supply Chain, Securities Services).
-Lead and inspire the teams to grow market share, volumes and revenues from quality assets / liabilities and fee income whilst managing costs.
-Growth of sustainable revenue and profit of CMB and GB.
-Achieve return on capital in excess of 25% must be achieved every year
-Cost discipline must be maintained to ensure investment and costs are not to be exceeded.
-Responsibility for overall CMB and GB strategy and policy formulation, Accountable for implementation of strategy.
-Enhancement of local Brand equity. Building the reputation of HSBC’s wholesale banking capability is a key priority.
-Maintenance of high customer service standards (internal and external).
-To manage operational risk, including its identification, assessment, mitigation and control, loss identification and reporting.
-Proactive management of credit, operational and country risks.
-Maintain HSBC Group compliance standards and credit control policies at all times minimizing the
-Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
-Develop and lead a high performance culture. Train and develop staff.
Work Location
The job holder will spend 2 weeks in Jordan and 2 weeks in Iraq.
Skills
-Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
-Fluent in English & Arabic
-Particular experience required in selling and structuring working capital short-term facilities.
-Through coaching and leading by example, create a strong customer service culture.
-Strong sales and marketing instincts. Able to personally originate new business but, if not more importantly, create similar business development skills across the team.
-Strong analytical and lateral thinking skills
