Chief Risk Officer

HSBC Iraq Background

HSBC is represented in Iraq through Dar Es Salaam Investment Bank (DES) which is one of Iraq's leading private banks headquartered in Baghdad - Park Al Sadoun and which has been 70.1% owned by HSBC since October 2005. DES currently has 16 branches which are well distributed around the country and has a support team functioning from HSBC Jordan to provide assistance to customers based in Amman. DES offers a wide range of domestic and international products and services represented in Personal Financial Services, Commercial Banking, Global Banking and Markets, Private Banking, Trade & Supply Chain and Payments and Cash Management.

Main Responsibilities

-Leading and building a high capability Risk function to identify, anticipate, asses, monitor and make timely and measured judgments regarding all current and potential future risks faced by HSBC in Iraq.
-Responsible for all risk disciplines: Wholesale & Retail Credit Risk Management, Recovery and handling of problematic relationships, Compliance, Operational Risk & Internal Control.
-Manage the credit risk on the Bank’s Corporate Banking and PFS lending portfolios.
-Design and maintain an effective operational risk and internal control framework in the Country, in line with Group Standards and local regulatory requirements.
-Lead the Risk People Agenda including strengthening the country’s understanding of risk management, succession planning, talent management, performance management and improving employee engagement.
-Work closely with business senior executives and provide judgment and clear direction on all associated risk matters.
-Responsible for introducing and growing a strong risk management culture across DES / HSBC Iraq.
-Responsible for overseeing and ensuring that risk standards are in accordance with the Group Standards Manual. Robust local credit polices to be in place and reviewed regularly for their ongoing adequacy.

Work Location

The job holder will spend 2 weeks in Jordan and 2 weeks in Iraq.
